I also liked Blomstedt's Denon 4, 7 and found his new LGO set enermously satisfying. One big surprise for me was this 3rd. I'm on the side who regard 1877 or 1889 far superior to the original version, and 1873 is only for the odd balls (Tintner, Young. Though I DO enjoy the performances of these Brucknerian conductors. They're really good, but not in the league of the great.) The reason I regard 1987 or 1889 version better is that they're written after the 5th which I regard as Bruckner's Damascus, spiritually. Blomstedt should have known that this complete set will remain as his legacy, but chose to include the original version, which really makes me wonder ...Kidon Sullhttp://hamjii.blog.me/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3047330152094708972.post-64996381790187421632017-05-25T22:11:33.579+08:002017-05-25T22:11:33.579+08:00Hmm... And some of my I D class pianists are in your A V class, though some of them I never heard of. Come to think of it even Michelangeli didn't make it. Well, it proves how seriously this personal taste on music can be varied. I mean even between the two music lovers who cherish Bruckner the most !Kidon Sullhttps://www.facebook.com/hamjiinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3047330152094708972.post-60406907295233431482017-05-25T21:54:58.620+08:002017-05-25T21:54:58.620+08:00So great to find another fan of Sinopoli-Bruckner ...So great to find another fan of Sinopoli-Bruckner cycle (well, almost !). There seem to be many articles I'd like to make some comments, but let's make this the first one. I myself sometimes thought that being a Brucknerian requires kind of a full time job, and you (in addition to John Burky) must be an example of my theory ! I also regard myself to be an incorrigible Brucknerian and spend a good deal of my time listening to and pondering upon his music.
Regarding Sinopoli's performances of Bruckner symphonies, 3 5 7 9 in particular in my case, I think it's someone's significant loss if he misses these recordings among entire Bruckner discography. In my opinion, Sinopoli's surgical precision + DSK's virtuosity/rapport + Klaus Hiemann's magical tonemeistering contributed achieving this feat. But, again, not many appreciate this wonderful recordings, as you've noticed !! Well, that's ok because it's not for everybody for sure, and I'm just glad to find another like-eared Brucknerian here.Kidon Sullhttps://www.facebook.com/hamjiinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3047330152094708972.post-80918064692040281162017-05-15T23:27:30.978+08:002017-05-15T23:27:30.978+08:00Hello Mr Lau. I attended the Brucknertage for the first time last year and on the 1st April this year I was invited to sing all of Bruckner's Lieder in the chapel of Hertford College Oxford as part of the Bruckner Journal Readers Conference.
I just wanted to ask for your advice. I'm greatly interested in acquiring the first two discs of this new Korean set but I can't find a download link anywhere. Neither is this set available here in the UK. Would you know where I can buy the downloads? I have listed to the 1st and 2nd Symphonies from this set on Spotify and they sound excellent but as I say I can't seem to find a link to purchase downloads. I do hope you have an idea where I might find this. If you only know either Linz version, expect many subtle refinements in the Vienna version which Abbado and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra realize with aplomb. Both the Accentus (DG) CD and the 180 g LP are quite good.mctoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09876649485220713023noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3047330152094708972.post-58013110868214061862016-12-17T13:11:48.243+08:002016-12-17T13:11:48.243+08:00Dr. Rainer Boss's liner notes claim that "...Dr. Rainer Boss's liner notes claim that "even passages lacking a coherent original version are presented in a distinctly Brucknerian style while additions are not perceived as alien features." I take no issue with Schaller's added voices throughout his Finale completion, and would argue that Bruckner himself elaborated the textures of his sketches in completed works. I am convinced up to the elongated dominant before the final D major resolution at 23:48. Schaller clearly modeled this from the 8th Symphony's finale coda, but seems to hold back the 9th finale's less stable and faster moving motifs to fit the 8th finale's mold.mctoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09876649485220713023noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3047330152094708972.post-34557393104124019462016-10-03T08:28:59.730+08:002016-10-03T08:28:59.730+08:00Thanks for the heads up on this new recording. Thanks for the heads up on this new recording.Krischenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17365500067042938680noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3047330152094708972.post-61545418080839559532016-08-22T12:47:10.617+08:002016-08-22T12:47:10.617+08:00I feel awesome indeed to hear the latest release o...I feel awesome indeed to hear the latest release of Conductor Rudolf Barshai for Bruckner 4th Symphony, first time released by Tobu, really makes me puzzled indeed which edition Barshai really used for its recording....the booklet actually does not mention it at all.

Hard to imagine that listening to Bruckner could link to sexuality, all I can hear and feel deeply is glacier and mountain after mountain (as if flying above), as well as the gothe-styled cathedral......Georgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00049872024512262281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3047330152094708972.post-5182915526452259512016-08-22T12:39:50.604+08:002016-08-22T12:39:50.604+08:00Looks like I am correct to grab that Grand Slam CD...Looks like I am correct to grab that Grand Slam CD for Bruckner 5th, not bad indeed!Georgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00049872024512262281noreply@blogger.com
