Christian Thielemann -- The very reason why the passion for Bruckner's music is still thriving

A short preliminary note.

It is strange. So much anticipation. And now so much relief and satisfaction.

Thielemann has only 2 commercial releases of Bruckner symphonies on CD and 1 on DVD so far, covering barely the 4th, 5th, 7th and 8th.

The most recent CD on the 8th becomes an immediate member in my small group of "indispensables".

More later.

  1. Dear Horauce,

I'm a longtime fan of your blog, and learned a lot from it.
DG released Thielemann/MPO's Bruckner Symphony No. 5 some years ago, some people raved about it, but I also found some people(i.e. David Hurwitz) critized it. Could you share you opinion on that recording? Thank you.

    Best regards.

    Sky.

  2. Dear Sky,
Thank you for your support and your kind words. Thielemann has attracted my attention ever since his first CDs were released. I'll try to post my thoughts on his Bruckner 5th recording shortly.
    Best regards,
    Horace
